Redeemer Bible Church is an independent reformed church located near the Owasso and Tulsa OK areas. They’re relatively small, but have a great community. They were going through some major renovations at the church and wanted to update their website to match. Additionally, they wanted to explore new strategies on getting people in the door.
Redeemer had already started to build their brand, but weren’t very clear about it.
In their logo, they use a rich navy blue and white. Along with the font Tahoma. But that’s where the brand clarity stops.
I needed to build on that before we started to create the website.
We added gold as a secondary color because it paired well with the navy blue and white, and it added a level of prestige.
To add some clarity in the hierarchy, we added the font “Zilla Slab'' as a secondary font. The slab serif was very strong and fit the theme well.
For layout and design, to continue with the strong, stable and secure theme, we decided to lean heavily on grid structured layouts. We wanted the strength that boxes and squares offer, but we used a combination of open elements, overlapping design, and white space to make the design inviting.
There was a lot to be desired with the former website. It was a simple 4 page website that was strictly text based. There was very little information that told you about the church.
In the new design, we added:
Everything was built to be in line with the church’s new brand identity. We used the structured grid, white space, a balance between white and navy blue with gold accents, and we made all the information easy to find.
We built the site on Webflow to make it easy for church members to manage and maintain the site. This allows developers to go in and make major changes, but editors can go on and make changes to content, images, and collections.
We integrated the Facebook livestream, donations, and upcoming sermons and events.
Of course, we covered the basics, including responsiveness, fast page speed, and function across browsers.
After the site was built and functional, we needed to build a strategy around it.
Because Redeemer is a church, they are technically a non-profit. This means that they can apply for the non-profit grant from Google Ads.
We set up Redeemer for a $10,000 monthly Google grant and started running two campaigns.
We created a local campaign that ran 24/7 all week long. The goal was to get the attention of people looking for a church who were living in the Tulsa-Owasso area.
We had several ad groups running including:
All of our keywords were set to broad match to get as many impressions as possible
We created a national campaign that ran on a specific schedule:
The schedule revolved around when the church was having sermons. The link would go directly to the church's live stream. We only ran one campaign for this called “Online Church”
Email people who are interested in online sermons when a sermon will start and where they can donate.
